I. Introduction to BIS certification in India
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the Indian standardization and certification authority. It was formally established in 1987 to replace the Indian Standards Institute established in 1946. BIS belongs to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution. Although it is a social corporation, it exercises government functions. Its main tasks are to formulate and implement national standards; implement conformity assessment systems; and issue and manage BIS certification.
Based on India's national conditions, Indian certification has its own unique characteristics, multiple document requirements, complex certification procedures, strong level concepts, complicated procedures, and strict factory inspection and product sealing. For inexperienced service agencies, India certification may take more than a year and may not be able to obtain a certificate.

two. Indian BIS certification scope (in two batches)
The first batch (Mandatory has been mandatory in batches since 1986): BIS certification in the field of certification is applicable to manufacturers in any country, the main fields of certification are: 1. tires; 2. household irons, electric kettles, electric stoves, heaters 3. The second batch (compulsory from March 2013 to the present): there are compulsory registration products for electronic information technology equipment, including 1. set-top boxes; 2. portable computers; 3. notebooks; 4. tablet computers; 5. screen size in 32 And above display; 6. The third batch (Compulsory mandatory from November 2014): 1. IT equipment power adapter; 2. AV equipment power adapter; 3. USP uninterruptible power supply; 4. DC or AC LED module; 5. Battery for handheld devices 6. Self-ballasted LED lights; 7. Fixed LED lamps; 8. Mobile phones; 9. Cash registers; 10. Sales terminal equipment; 11. Copiers; 12. Smart card readers; 13. three. India BIS certification process
(1) Application. More than 20 documents need to be submitted including, but not limited to: 1. factory location and factory distribution map; 2. production plant certification documents; 3. a list of existing production equipment and inspection equipment; 4. tests in use or proposed use Inspection plan, together with a letter of commitment to comply with the BIS-approved test and inspection plan after the certificate is awarded; 5. A letter of commitment to pay the required marking fee from the date of the certificate; 6. Product drawings and internal test reports; 7. Laboratory cooperation declaration; 8. Quality personnel situation and resume.
(2) Recording. After detailed examination, if the application procedures are complete, BIS will record the application and assign an application number to the applicant, so the application is established.
(3) Initial inspection. The applicant and BIS agree on a date, and the BIS inspection officer performs the initial inspection of the factory. The company's production capacity and control level, quality control technology, existing equipment, staff skills, and sample testing are used to determine whether the product meets India standard. Sample testing can be performed at the factory as well as at BIS or other accredited laboratories. During the initial inspection, the BIS inspection officer will also discuss with the applicant's management about the test and inspection schemes that must be performed to perform the certificate after certification. The test and inspection schemes clearly define the production process controls that must be implemented.
(4) Issue a certificate. If the initial inspection and sample test results meet the conditions, a certificate will be issued to the applicant. The certificate is valid for one year. If the execution certificate is correct, it can be renewed for two years upon application. If the licensee wishes to expand the range of products covered by the same standard of the certificate, after regular testing, those who meet the conditions can change it. If the validity period of the certificate expires, the certificate can be renewed depending on the implementation of the validity period of the certificate.
(5) Supervision after certification. After the certificate is granted, if the licensee has fully performed the test and inspection plan, the product is consistent with Indian standards, the sample test record is kept complete, and the product can be stamped with an authorization. Applicants are required to pay a certain identification fee.
BIS will conduct regular supervision and inspection on the licensee's implementation. This kind of supervision and inspection mainly depends on whether the test and inspection plan is completely implemented and whether the quality control system is strictly implemented according to technical standards. At the same time, test the production samples and send the samples to BIS or an independent laboratory for inspection.
four. India BIS certification cycle
India's BIS certification cycle is relatively long, depending on the product test situation and the smooth inspection of the factory, some require only two or three months, some require half a year, and some even more than a year.
